Welcome to Pack 312, Apex NC!

Pack 312 is the oldest Pack in the Apex/Cary area which means that we’ve been having fun longer than most people have been alive!  Pack 312 is one of the only Packs in the Apex/Cary area chartered by a civic organization and the Lions are one of the most active charity and service organizations in the area. We often coordinate with them and their other chartered organization, Troop 209 - Apex—the oldest Boy Scout Troop in the Apex/Cary area. From September to May we meet as a Pack on the first Tuesday of the month and the Dens meet the other weeks to work with their Den leaders, Denners, and parents on their individual advancement requirements. The Pack also does a number of family outings like our Fall and Spring campouts, monthly Pack Hikes and the “Big Trip” in June/July where we camp overnight on the Battleship Wisconsin or Sleep with the Sharks at Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach. The individual dens also sometimes do “Get out of the Scout hut” outings to places like local fire stations, the Carolina Tiger Preserve, the Durham Museum of Life and Science, and the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center to provide local flavor to their requirements and experiences.

Den 4 Leadership Change

Posted on Mar 18 2018 - 2:48pm

Steve Hollar has graciously stepped up to take on the Committee Chair role for the next several years.  With this change, Den 4 is now stuck again with the Wurst Den Leader ever!  I look forward to ending my Cub Scout carreer as I started it - back to being a Den Leader!  This change is effective for the Den Meeting 3/22!!!

Thank You For a Successful SFF Drop Off!!!

Hi Pack 312,

Just a quick note (since apparently no one is reading my artfully crafted emails in their entirety :)  Thank you so much to the 10-12 families that came out today to help in the SFF bag drop off today.  Den Leaders make sure you record 2 hours in Scoutbook under the Service log for any scout that participated tonight.  Please use "Western Wake Ministries (Scouting for Food Drop Off)" in the description for tracking purposes.

Now THAT'S what I call a Pinewood Derby!!!

Hello Pack 312,

I just wanted to send out a special thank you to everyone who came out Saturday and made our Pack PWD such a good time.  A very special thanks to Chris Patterson and the rest of the Pinewood Derby committee for throwing such a great event for us!  And for those of you who have asked after Den Leader Stephen who was releasing the cars from the starting line--according to the doctors he is going to be just fine and the reconstructive surgery went well.  Medical Officer Heather has pointed out to me very loudly that equiping my family car with liquid nitrogen was a bad idea and I take full responsibility there.  On a good note, however, I did overhear Andrea Hollar, Stephen's wife, telling the plastic surgeons "yes before this he definitely looked like Tom Cruise in Risky Business" so the upside is that we might have a famous person in the Pack--or at least someone who looks like someone famous.

Blue & Gold Banquet - Save the Date and More

First, a brief introduction. I'm Kevin Calcagno and I am taking over as Assistant Cubmaster since Byron claims he will soon have no more sons in Cub Scouts, as if that were an excuse to leave the job. (Seriously, though, big thanks to Byron for all he has done for the pack over the years.) My son, Adam, is in the Bear den, and we joined Pack 312 this year after a couple years in Pack 316. Looking forward to meeting more of you as I step into Byron's shoes.

Great Pinewood Derby workday

Posted on Jan 28 2018 - 7:50pm

Hi all,

I want to send a special thanks to our Pinewood Derby Committee for putting together a great workday today!  Oddly, I did not see anyone making any a "Cubmaster Carl Rules!!" style car but maybe those are all in the Design category.  I did notice our new Assistant Cubmaster, Kevin C., working on something so I am guessing that will be the "Carl Schreiber and Aerosmith Dream On "Tribute & Pace Car" that we will use to start and end the PWD.

Ballistic Missiles and Boy Scouts

Hello Pack 312,

That was the text message that came through my iPhone while I was in Hawaii last week.  My wife had a conference there and since my job allows me to work remotely I decided to join her.  Hawaii is a once in a life time opportunity and since Wes has learned to be pretty self-sufficient when I am working I agreed to bring him with us to enjoy the beautiful island paradise and get some exposure to its culture and history.  (So imagine my chagrin when Wes brought my iPhone to me and asked me what the text meant.)  Initially, I thought it was some sort of prank until I looked out my window and saw hundreds of people staring down at their mobile devices or looking up into the sky.
